A Dialogue in Print: A Print Exchange Between the California Society of Printmakers and the Print Club of Rochester.
In 2016, two Board members, one from each print organization, the Print Club of Rochester and the California Society of Printmakers, attended a printmaking workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Through several conversations regarding their respective groups, it became evident that both organizations shared common goals and interests, as well as a desire to collaborate in the future. After several years and a worldwide pandemic, the clubs reconnected.
It only seemed fitting that two of the oldest printmaking associations in the country should work together. Most important was the desire to promote the creation of fine art printmaking and the connection between printmaker and print organization. Thus, a print portfolio exchange andexhibition were conceived. This collection of prints reflects each organization’s diversity in subject matter, artistic expression and printmaking techniques.

Mono Variations
Mono Variations was shown at Arc Gallery, San Francisco, California in January 2024. This exhibition showcases artwork from California based printmakers. Prints are presented in pairs to explore image making serially through the use of the same template, or marked plate over the course of many prints. The artwork shown is wildly inventive. Artists came to their own interpretations of the prospectus, and process, in ways the organizers could never have anticipated. Ultimately, the singular print became varied. The multiple impressions of each collection of prints tell a story, connected by its own origin and trajectory.
